A historical novel by the British writer Henry Kingsley, first published in 1859. It is considered one of the first Australian novels, as it depicts the life of the early settlers and explorers in New South Wales and Tasmania. The novel follows the adventures of three families – the Buckleys, the Thorntons, and the Brentwoods – from their origins in England to their settlement in Australia.
